These stray dogs are brought by the Corporation authorities for sterilization. One of the most interesting and useful activities of the SPCA is the animal birth control project by which birth control operations are performed on dogs and cats. Humane Education: Modern education has no doubt wrought miracles and proved that nothing is beyond human intelligence. But how much nicer would it have been if we had also learnt to be humane and to respect each other’s feelings and do unto others as we would like to be done to ourselves.
Let all of us who believe that every living being be it man or animal has a right to live a life free from fear and pain strive to spread Humane Education .To inculcate “Kindness to Animals” in the minds of children and to create an awareness about animal welfare, we have been conducting every year competitions for them in Painting and Oratory.
The Society appeals to Educational Institutions, service-minded Organizations and others to extend their co-operation in this task, the importance and urgency of which cannot be ignored any longer.
Painting Competition: As part of our efforts to promote Humane Education, the annual painting competition for school children is conducted annually. In the adage “Catch Them Young” is aptly applicable if even at a young age, children and students, are imbibed with the laudable motive of animal welfare. Large number of students from various schools of Chennai city enthusiastically participate in the competition. A Number of Consolation prizes were given to encourage the students.
Animal Welfare Fortnight Celebrations: Animal WelfareFortnight is celebrated by S.P.C.A annually between 14th and 28th January. Throughout the fortnight stray animals are fed free. As part of fortnight celebrations an Oratorical competition for school children is also held. The topics for competition are chosen in such a way to kindle kindness towards animals in their heart. A large number of students participate from various schools of Chennai city. Besides three prizes for the first three places, a number of consolation prizes are given to the participants to encourage them. The prizes are given away to the winners during the `Annual Day` Celebrations.
FRIEND TO ANIMALS: A scout/guide is always looked upon as friend to animals. A first hand knowledge of what constitutes cruelty to animals, what types of cruelties are generally inflicted on them and what should be done, when cases of cruelties are noticed is essential to a Scout/Guide. Who is looked upon as a "FRIEND TO ANIMALS" with this end in view, S.P.C.A.took steps to enable the Scout / Guide to secure knowledge on different aspects of animal welfare by giving coaching as per the syllabus and awarding "FRIEND TO ANIMALS" Badges.
All the above mentioned activities are carried out donations, grant from AWBI and subscriptions. Hence we express our deep sence of gratitude to the unmauitarians and puilanthropists, who gave substantial and generous help without anyreservation.
